MIND STORM
Week 2
Day 2: CHESS BOT
Overview
Interesting day today. Alot of last weeks activities became alot more clearer. what i viewed as first as a random tasks of walking around the city playing a funning and amusing day was turned to appreciation to the approch taking in getting us to completes some of our first offical assignments. Though i missed the day when we created and personlized chess piece with its own signture movment /protocols. Today we link that protocol and applied to our very own mini mindstorm robot called the TRACKER.
Objective
After being given the objective to construct a basic robot upload the protocol used made last week by the group program it to reach a certain destination on the building. Though the distance was not huge we encounted many problems. This particular task was very time consuming for our group. The software given to us was great and easy to use. However we couldn't get the programming right. Our protocol was was quite complex. making our programming very long and repeative. It involved our piece moving in any direction one space six times but never repeating the same direction consecutively. Because of lack of understand at this stage of the program we didnt add any sensor to our robot. when i came to to present it to the class and watch treak its way through the hall... It failed miserabley.
WHAT I LEARN'T... there are lot of variables when robot starts its journey. Even a little slante in the carpet, or to much dust on the carpet, even battery power can send it way of course if you only program set insturction and map out its every move having no sensors. The assignment was great way of getting us work with basic programming... and I mean basic. It allowed us see just how precise and well thought out programs have to be to work and achieve their objecetives Espescially when following a protocol. Becomming more familiar with the program will lead to better well programed robots also.
